What is happening in June
Meeting this month -Tuesday 25th June - 7.30 - 9.30pm
Seale Roses -
 David May of this family run business will talk on the growing of highly scented climbing and rambling roses in which they specialise. They also offer a wide selection of fragrant, healthy bush roses. David will focus on the growing techniques they use in propagating roses and bring a selection of stock for sale. They offer a discount to members on their roses.

Saturday 8th June 1pm - 4pm we have a stall at Milford Village Fete. This is your chance to buy plants at very reasonable prices.

Summer Show
Most entries are open to members only. All entry forms to be submitted by 7pm on the Thursday before the show. No entries will be accepted on the day. Set up 8.45 -10.45am when the Village Hall will then be cleared for judging.

See schedule for classes you can enter, rules and advice for exhibitors (under Events on the website). If every member submitted one entry what a wonderful display we would have! Come and have a cup of tea or coffee in the afternoon and support the hard work of our exhibitors. You might pick up some tips on growing something you have admired.

Early National Sweet Pea Exhibition

If you love Sweet Peas this exhibition is well worth a visit. The scent of these beautiful flowers fills the exhibition hall whilst the colours and varieties available may well inspire some of you to buy seeds and show your flowers next year at our Summer Show!
What is happening in July

Meeting this month: Tuesday 23rd July 7.30 - 9.30pm
Companion Planting - Growing the Organic Way - Belinda Allen

Belinda will share her experience of planting different types of plants together which not only coexist happily but help to create a healthy environment, combating disease and predators. By using nature, pesticides are no longer needed. She will also deal with creating and maintaining healthy garden soil.

 

29th June 10am - 5pm. The Alpine Society is putting on their annual show at Wisley.

9th July Visit to Clandon Estate Vineyard,  this will be held jointly with Witley Gardening Association. Details to follow.

Did you know...
As affiliated members of the RHS we have a club discount entry card, which has unlimited use, with 50% entry discount to any RHS garden for 2 people who are our members who are not members of the RHS. (Please note it can't be used for the flower shows or illumination events). As members of Milford Horticultural and Gardening Society you may borrow for a visit and return it so that other members can also make one.

What is happening in August

Members' Social Evening: Tuesday 27th August 7.15pm

Due to circumstances beyond our control this event has been rearranged from May. Don't forget to bring own glasses, plates and cutlery. Note earlier start.

While you are out and about looking at gardens this month, or even enjoying your family pets in your own garden, why not take a photo??

If you take a photo of any of these we would love it if you shared it with us on Saturday the 7th September at our annual Autumn Show!

Gardens of the Lake District - Eric Swidenbank

Our Vice-Chairman will be taking us around gardens he has visited in the Lake District. Join us for what promises to be a beautiful visual tour in a spectacular part of England.

Wisley Flower Show 3rd - 5th September

The annual show has plants for sale, displays to admire together with

the National Dahlia Society who hold their inspirational Annual Show in the marquee. Why not visit the gardens and enjoy the Show?

What is happening in October

Meeting 22nd October 7.30.- 9.30pm

Painshill Garden Restoration - Michelle Howes

Painshill Garden was created between 1738 and 1770 by Charles Hamilton as a living painting. It contains a Serpentine Lake and numerous follies such as a “Turkish Tent”, “Gothic Tower” and a “Crystal Grotto” for views around the lake. Michelle will talk on the garden‘s recent restoration and its history. Painshill Garden is listed Grade 1.

This will be followed by a cheese and wine event where you can meet other members and exchange ideas.
